The long awaited GoPro LCD Backpack had arrived on my doorstep today from a friendly FedEx lady. Plain brown packaging could only mean one thing... a product from GoPro! After losing the previous GoPro HD on the side of a mountain, a very nice friend of mine had purchased another one for me at the SIA ski show in Colorado. After opening the brown cardboard box I was surprised to find a very small box at the very bottom which houses the small prize!
The packaging for the screen is really quite nice, very similar to the actual GoPro HD camera.

After pulling the screen out of the box, there was to my surprise, four replacement backs to the current GoPro water proof case. One for waterproof wristband use, one for audio wristband use, one for regular waterproof use and the last one for regular audio use. The one chosen for this time is the regular waterproof back which snaps into place where the old door resided. It's very obvious which door is which, some have holes, some don't, the others have stickers on the back marking which is for the wrist strap.

Once you've made the necessary door choice, it's time to upgrade the firmware of the actual camera. This step is quite easy and the firmware is a free download from GoPro.com on their support page. The nice part about doing this is there's a youtube video on their site that provides step by step instructions on downloading and installing the new firmware on the camera. Doing this only too 10 minutes and was very straight forwards.
Once the camera reboots and the screen is clicked on to the back of the GoPro, the screen jumps to life with a very vivid image of what the camera is taking in. Finally you can see what your shooting accurately and how to frame your shots. The clarity of the screen is fantastic and there's no lag when moving around quickly. You can now move through the settings menu and actually comprehend what you're changing as the screen relays all the settings in full sentences and options!

Overal this is a very welcomed addition to a very strong and versatile camera. This opens the door to not only use it as a head cam or a POV, but now as an actual camcorder for those extra artistic shots! We can't wait to put this to the real test this year and see how well it holds up. Not only is it great to be able to see what you're filming, it's also great to have a GoPro HD cam back to record some great memories.
Let's see how this holds up shall we!
